We're often asked what does the "SSV" in SSV Burbank Soccer stand for?  Here's the history:

FFC Turbine Potsdam is a women's only soccer club, which plays in the German Bundesliga (first division) since the 1994-1995 season.

The Official site is FFC Turbine.

Potsdam is the Capital of the German State Brandenburg which is located in the southwest section of Berlin.

Until 1990, Potsdam was a city in the GDR (German Democratic Republic) and today has approximately 144,000 inhabitants - about the same populous as Burbank.

The soccer club was found in 1971 as "BSG Turbine Potsdam". The club was the most successful team in the German Democratic Republic as Turbine Potsdam won championships in 1981, 1982, 1983, 1985, 1986 and 1989.

In 1990, the club was renamed as "SSV Turbine Potsdam".turbine_pic.gif (19817 bytes)

After that, Turbine Potsdam played in the Regionalliga Nordost (one of seven second divisions in Germany) for 3 seasons.

Since 1994, Turbine Potsdam has played in the German Bundesliga. In 1997, 1999, 2001 and 2002 the club achieved the semi-final of the German Association Cup.

In 1999, the department of women's soccer became independent and was renamed "FFC Turbine Potsdam".  FFC meaning Women's Football Club in German.

In the last few years, the club always belonged to the top teams in Germany.

In 2001, 2002 and 2003 Turbine Potsdam was the runner-up in Germany.

The 2004 campaign was by far the most successful one in the history of the club as Turbine Potsdam won all possible German trophys and represented well in the UEFA Women's Cup.

These successess were all made possible because the club had many, dedicated young players who had developed through a 'system of play', known as the 'European-style' of player development.
