The Parent's Corner

Understanding the ground rules for parent/player participation on this team is considered extremely important and instrumental to the success of the team. Please take a moment to read through our requirements and guidelines. Should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Team Manager Aki Niwa.

Overview

The player's parent agrees to commit to SSV GU13 Team for the playing FULL season which runs from April 1, 2008 through March 31, 2009. They agree that they and the player will make a 'best-efforts, priority-one commitment' to attend all training sessions, organized matches, scrimmages, friendly games and tournaments, which are arranged by the Team throughout the season.  Parents give their personal approval to the Player's participation in any and all activities arranged by or scheduled for the Team.

Training & Games

Regular training takes place twice per week in the evenings at Team-sanctioned facilities and all players are expected to attend. If a player cannot attend, the coach must be notified in advance. Players are expected to attend organized matches, scrimmages, friendly games and tournaments that are held at various facilities, locations and the dates might be subject to change.

Code of Conduct

All players and parents, including guests and visitors, will abide by a 'Code of Conduct'. Failure of a player or parent to abide by the Code of Conduct can lead to disciplinary action by the Manager(s) and/or Coach, including suspension and/or expulsion of the Player and/or Parent(s) from the Team.

Equipment

Each player will be issued two soccer jerseys (home and away), two pair of soccer shorts, two pairs of soccer socks, and two practice T-shirts. A uniform fee will be charged to each player and be due at the time the uniform and practice t-shirts are delivered to the player. Any other Team Apparel costs including sweatshirts, sweats, extra socks, bags, et al is at the sole expense of the player, parent and/or guardian.

Tournament Play

The Team will participate in approximately 10-12 tournaments per year, which include CSL League Cup and Cal South State/National Cup. The Managers and Coach will decide upon the tournaments played in addition to League Cup and State/National Cup. Tournament fees will be paid at the time the tournament is scheduled and will be paid for or deducted from the personal balance of the parent or requested at the time. Tournament fees will be deducted regardless of whether or not the Player attends the particular tournament.

Fees

In regards to general participation fees, parents will only be expected to cover the hard costs only.  These fees will be spelled out in contractual form and signed by the parent before the season commences.

Player Behavior

  • Players are expected to attend all training sessions, games, scrimmages and tournaments regularly. Families should notify the coach(es) and/or manager(s) ahead of time when players cannot attend any above-listed event.

  • Players are expected to wear and/or bring the correct uniforms/equipment to all events.

  • Players are expected to show proper respect towards the coach(es), trainer(s), manager(s) and Team official(s) at all times.

  • Players are to afford the same courtesy to opposition players and parents, as well as to referees and their assistants.

  • Players are to refrain from using foul or derogatory language to their teammates or opponents.

Parent Behavior

  • Parents are expected to set a good example for their children by being positive towards them, our opponents and the officials, at all games, scrimmages and tournaments the Team attends or participates in.

  • Parents are not to engage in coaching from the sidelines, berate or call instructions to any players during contests or practices.

  • Parents are expected to refrain from addressing referees and their assistants, before, during or after games.

  • Parents are expected to leave the coaching of the team to the coach.

  • Parents are expected to refrain from addressing the coach during or after games or practices, with "sensitive" questions or complaints of any kind. Instead, the protocol will be as follows: set a time with the coach(es) and manager(s) to discuss issues no sooner than 48 hours after any games and no sooner than 24 hours after training sessions.

All parents and players must follow practical, common sense guidelines to make this an effective, positive program.

We all must periodically remind ourselves that we are merchants of the sport and realize that our kids will all develop at different paces.

Everything we teach young people should prepare them for the long run … in their sport, in their job, in their life and in their responsibility to society in general.
